Pull ups are a significant milestone in many programs, many people want to have the ability to complete 1 and from there it becomes a little addictive and more and more reps are desired. If you're on your way to building towards a full pull up the being assisted is a great way to begin the process. Getting maximal assistance when your body is at the lowest point can help you get exposed to stress in the longer range before doing one of three things: 1) Add more reps 2) Use a lighter band or 3) set the band up lower, so your maximal assistance is less. This can also be a nice way to get spotted reps if you want to work towards fatigue.
